"Unfortunately, for many savers, personal savings often end up being the weakest link, says Keith Ellis Jr., investment advisor representative and co-founder of SHP Financial in Plymouth, Massachusetts. "Many people are unaware or have incorrectly estimated how much money they'll need to live comfortably in retirement." Socially responsible bond funds and bond ETFs can offer a cost-efficient path to sustainable investing. Inflation can take a toll on your investments and that can be critical in retirement if certain expenses, such as health care, increase. Stocks and inflation-protected investments enable your savings to keep pace with rising prices.

In her article "Inflation-Proof Your Retirement" US News Contributor Rebecca Lake interviews SHP Financial Co-Founder and Certified Financial Planner™ Matthew Peck for his take on the topic. Here's an excerpt from the article:

The biggest danger to your retirement security may be the one you least expect. Inflation can erode your spending power in retirement dramatically, and underestimating its potential damage can cost you.

“Inflation is often overlooked and represents one of the biggest threats to retirement, alongside an extended bear market and a sudden change in health,” says Matthew Peck, co-founder of SHP Financial in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Inflation, he says, may deliver a one-two punch if retirees are living on a fixed income and the cost of health care outpaces the consumer price index.

August 18, 2017 - Matthew Peck, CFP® quoted in U.S. News

As stock prices heat up, knowing your investments' underlying fundamentals can help you keep your cool.  In her article "How to Invest in an Overvalued Market" US News Contributor Rebecca Lake interviews SHP Financial Co-Founder and Certified Financial Planner™ Matthew Peck for his take on the topic. Here's an excerpt from the article:

Matthew Peck, a certified financial planner and co-founder of SHP Financial in Plymouth, Massachusetts, says there are many different ways to forecast when an overvalued market is reaching its tipping point. The price-earnings ratio of the Standard and Poor's 500 index is one. Yield curve is another.

The yield curve illustrates bond yield trends over varying maturities. A normal yield curve has higher interest rates for long-term bonds and lower ones for short-term bonds. Peck says that when the yield curve flattens, "that can be a sign that there's a credit crunch and a recession may soon follow."  Click here to read full article.
